Main Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine Choose a fruity red wine for best flavor.
  • 1 piece orange, sliced Fresh slices add flavor and decoration.
  • 10 whole cloves Add more for a stronger clove flavor.
  • 2 sticks cinnamon Adjust based on preference.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 2 cups apple cider Combines well with red wine.
  • to taste additional spices (e.g., star anise, nutmeg) Experiment with different spices.

Preparation

  • In a large pot, combine the red wine, apple cider, sugar, and spices.
  • Add the sliced orange and stir to combine.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat until it's warm, but do not boil.
  • Let it simmer for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Strain out the spices and orange slices.

Serving

  • Serve warm in heatproof mugs or glasses.
  • Optionally garnish with a cinnamon stick or a slice of orange.

Notes

If you have leftover mulled wine, let it cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove when ready to enjoy again. Adjust the spices and wine variety as per preference. A non-alcoholic version can be made using apple cider or grape juice.
