Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Rolling Sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar For rolling the dough balls.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt together. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Baking

  • Roll the dough into small balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar.
  • Place the sugar-coated balls on a baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden but the centers remain soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve your Chai Spice Cookies warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with a cup of tea or coffee. For a sweet touch, add a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top.
